It quite beats me how the Pundits have divined the progress of the war in Ukraine when the sources of information are so brazenly one sided. To establish my case, I have pulled out pages from my war diaries to prove how the situation on the ground is often at a variance from what the Western media reports.
Does the predicament in which Imran finds himself have something to do with his official two-day visit to Moscow on February 24, just when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was starting? The high stake game that the Americans were leading the West into made it important for them to prove that Khan was on the wrong side of history.
It is breathtaking media management. A besieged Volodymyr Zelensky in army casuals, exhorts his people every evening. Is he in a war zone or is he where President Biden met members of his cabinet – Warsaw? It would be a malicious rumour to float: that the war hero is in an American embassy which has been transformed into a TV studio.
The Russians have more or less achieved what they had to on the ground. But the "donors" for the Republicans as well as the Democrats want to expand the war. Blinken and Nuland would like to fight the war to the last Ukrainian.
Unless the Biden, Blinken and Victoria Nuland trio driving this war are willing to push Vladimir Putin to the nuclear edge, this war will end once Russia has altered the ground realities beyond Donbas, secure access to Crimea and settle for open ended talks.
Has Vladimir Putin been lured into Ukraine? Did he really imagine that it would be an easy two day outing? Something he did not put into his calculus was the years of planning at the Pentagon, Langley and the British military intelligence to entrap him. Who knows Putin may have counter moves up his sleeve.
On Ukraine, the West screamed “wolf” persistently. But when the “wolf” materialized, US and Britain left President Volodymyr Zelensky high and dry with routine sanctions on Russia. This is like denying breakfast to an errant schoolboy. France and Germany were always opposed to baiting Putin.
That Qatar has relations with Iran is disliked in Riyadh, ofcourse, but what causes much deeper anxieties is the material and moral support Qatar can provide to Muslim Brotherhood which represents all the tendencies that the Otaybi rebellion in 1979 represented.
