Problems had been brewing since August 2007. Withdraws had been going on for over a YEAR. Finally the herd realized what was happening, THAT ALL THE INVESTMENT BANKS AND MAJOR RETAIL BANKS IN THE UNITED STATES WERE BANKRUPT after almost two decades of rampant monetary expansion and loose lending. People decided to withdraw their money from money markets and move to primary FDIC insured accounts. Money markets WERE NOT FDIC insured prior to this event.
